  • I’ve seen companies second guess whether they should release code back to the community because something they’ve created had been used by a competing company or even on a competing product. I’ve seen companies contributing code that contained spyware which has caused uproars and splitting of loyalties within the community. I’ve seen developers lose their jobs because the corporation they worked for did not understand the typical Drupal developer’s need to give back to the community. I’ve heard people lament over the “good ol’ days” when DrupalCons were more about the developers and the community, and less about the business of Drupal. These things are all part of the growing pains we’re going through, and each issue must be handled with care. But I’ve never seen a community so strong and so caring with each other either, and I’m quite confident that it can continue to be so as long as people are willing to discuss the issues publicly and frequently.
